I was in middle school when I first heard about arguably the two greatest hip hop artist of all time, Tupac and Biggie. I was curious about what made them both so great and considered the GOATS of their time. I then learned that they once had beef with each other and there was one song in which changed my thinking into believing that Tupac is probably the better rapper than Biggie. The song is called "Hit em Up" by Tupac. I was just beginning to listen to hip hops greatest during this time and din't understand the beef between the artist until I heard this song.
The song "Hit em Up" by Tupac is definitely the greatest diss song created in hip hop history. The rapper Tupac just destroys everyone he is against in the song. For example, in the beginning of the song you can hear Tupac claim that he had slept with Biggie's wife and how Biggie is copying his rap and clothing style. He also raps along about Biggies rap label and if anyone likes the record label "Bad Boy" then he doesn't like them either.
The song impacted me socially because I felt like I was being able to understand more about Hip Hop's history by knowing the legendary beef between arguably the two Greatest of All Time in the industry. It impacted me by choosing the actual better artist between both Tupac and Biggie. Everyone argues who is the better artists and I always couldn't decide between each one until i heard this song.
It reached to me easily because I"m a huge fan of hip hop and love the music. I learned about the greatest and fell into the history of Tupac and Biggie. The beef came up in both of their careers and then the song popped up as one the best diss song ever created in hip hop. The artist was great at expressing what he felt towards the other rapper and didn't hold back at all. He spoke the truth and how he really felt emotionally and mentally about Biggie.

I connect with your idea of one song really speaking to you. For me it was Till I Collapse by eminem which I used to listen to before every game.
ReplyDeleteArt comes in many forms, in this case songs. Two great rappers that changed and influenced rap. What would rap be if they were alive? Would we still have trap, Chris?
ReplyDeleteThe whole idea of a "diss" song is interesting to think about. Art is serving yet another social function, since it represents a non-violent way of getting your issue with someone out there.
